Cleaning for Safety

It is essential to keep your grilling environment is safe.   Although the tasks we will discuss are also recommended as part of your grill's preventative maintenance, they become critical if your grill is showing specific symptoms.  Cleaning for safety involves cleaning the burner tubes and surrounding areas and involves the following tasks:

  • Cleaning the burner tubes

  • Cleaning the burner tube ports

  • Cleaning the spider and insect screens

The burner tubes contain two areas key to optimal grill performance and those are the ports that run along the length of the burner tube and the spider / insect screens at the end of the tubes.   If these are clogged then the gas / air mixture is obstructed.  Consequently, a fire hazard can readily occur.

Some symptoms that the burner tubes, ports and screens need cleaning are listed below. A failure to correct the problems could easily result in a fire.

  • Desired temperature is not reached

  • Heat is uneven

  • One or more burners do not ignite

  • Improper flame pattern

  • Smell of gas
